Tiago is a small company dedicated to the creation of fine luxury jewellery. Located in the heart of Sheffield, we provide a highly personalised, bespoke jewellery design and manufacturing service. In contrast to most other designer jewellers, every item created by Tiago is entirely handfinished especially for you by our highly skilled master jeweller in our local studio.
David, our master jeweller, has over 22 years experience working in the jewellery industry. He is highly experienced in repairs, manufacturing, bespoke commissions and diamond mounting, working with platinum, 18 carat gold, fine quality diamonds and other precious gems. On leaving school, David joined Sheffield Forgemasters on a youth apprentice scheme, taking on much metalwork fabrication and engineering/machine skills.
After completing this scheme, David joined McAvoy & Beardsmore, a local well respected jewellers in Sheffield. Here David really started to build his skills and carried out high quality repairs for high street stores across South York’s. David left McAvoy & Beardsmore after completing 6years of training and moved into manufacturing. He managed the workshop and helped develop the product range for the UK’S leading cufflink and lapidary set jewellery manufacturer. During this time, he began creating bespoke jewellery, including commissions for a former prime minister and sports personalities.
For the past 10 years David has been working for Europe’s largest jewellery wholesaler developing products for the UK’s leading retail jewellers.
Developing his diamond mounting and ring making skills and with David’s experience in manufacturing , he was responsible for training a team of highly skilled jewellers dedicated to the development and manufacture of a luxury brand of jewellery.
Undertaking the more sculptural element of jewellery, David was responsible for the more unusual pieces, working on animal carvings, figures, racing cars, and other iconic imagery. This wealth of experience and interpretation of conceptual design in all aspects of jewellery making has given David an excellent understanding that jewellery has to be aesthetically pleasing as well as technically correct. David's skills incorporate traditional gold and silversmithing, pewter and wax carving as well as the latest Computer aided design and manufacturing techniques. Peter started his career, as an apprentice, with a precision optical instrument manufacturer in the York. Then, after completing a combined engineering degree in Manchester, he joined a large packaging organisation in Aintree, as a project engineer. Seeking new challenges, in 1988, he was recruited by the De Beers Group, the world's largest rough diamond company. His task was to train in the art of grading, planning and cutting and polishing natural diamonds, which included working with traditional diamond cutters and polishers. This provided the opportunity to develop hands on practical experience of the transition of diamonds from rough to polished and was carried out close to Antwerp, in the Groups manufacturing research unit This training extended to spending time in the Companies clients factories in Malaysia, Botswana and India, which provided valuable experience of how gem diamond manufacturing was carried out on a larger scale and provided an insight into the operating practices of the gem diamond industry. This introduction to the diamond industry was second to none and led to many opportunities within the De Beers group of companies including;
Again seeking new challenges Peter moved on and after successfully completing an MBA at Henley Management College, in 2003, he chose to stay close to the diamond industry and joined the UK's largest jewellery importer/distributor in Leeds. This again provided many opportunities including; gaining a greater understanding of the commercial jewellery industry dynamics while working on numerous projects, sourcing diamonds gemstones and regularly travelling to Bangkok, Hong Kong, China and India. In 2006 he relocated to Bangkok to manage the company's gemstone activity and work closely with the new manufacturing facility in the Northern Thailand. An unlikely opportunity then arose with the world's largest Mobile phone company, as the jewellery and gemstone specialist in their premium mobile phone division. This included developing and sourcing solutions to produce the world most luxurious mobile phones. Peter has now taken the opportunity to use his extensive experience to assist in the development of Tiago.
